Nice hike in up along part of the Grisdale Valley
You can start from The Patterdale Carpark if your not comming from Side Farm campsite.
Small section of woodland walk then onto the what I’d call less touristy route up to Helveylern. Long slow plods up the side of the mountain with ferns each side for most of it.
At the top you come out just below the wall in to Striding edge.
Scramble to the top or take the lower paths for more walking vibes.
Brisk walk to get the summit then turn around and walk along the edge to get yourself to Dolly wagon Pike which has lovely views down the valley.
Simple zig zag path all the way down to the tarn. Swim is optional.
Keep to the left hand side path leaving the tarn to boot back down the valley. A surprisingly fun path. When. You get to the gate at the plantation you can hang a right at the wall before you go through the gate and hoping the zig zag path, or if the weathers hot and dry you can scramble up the river to the right of the path which is quite good fun. Hang a left at the top and just sort of bumble across the smaller peaks below the main peaks above.
You get to what Incan only describe as a small section of alpine feeling pathway along the side of the mountain which made me smile.
You’ve then got a pretty steep steppy downhill before you hang a right at the gate and tootle back along toward the hotel.
