Mountain Craft Verified. This is the official line used on our guided events, optimised for safety and efficient movement in all weather conditions.
ROUTE OVERVIEW The Moel Hebog range sits directly across the valley from Yr Wyddfa, making it the ultimate tactical escape from the northern honeypots. This file covers the complete 12km circuit starting from Beddgelert, featuring an aggressive, direct ascent to the summit of Moel Hebog (783m) before traversing the complex, undulating ridge over Moel yr Ogof and Moel Lefn.
THE TERRAIN A steep, lung-busting initial ascent gives way to a brilliant, rocky skyline. Expect broken blocks, pathless sections, and complex micro-terrain, particularly around Moel yr Ogof. It entirely lacks the maintained, stepped paths of the central massif, demanding constant attention to foot placement and route finding.
CHALLENGE RATING Physically demanding and navigationally serious in low visibility. The route involves almost 1000m of ascent with steep, craggy descents that can quickly become treacherous in wet conditions. It is a significant step up from standard trail walking and requires off-path micro-navigation skills to avoid getting crag-fast.
NOTE This is a circular route starting and finishing in Beddgelert. Mountain Craft runs this exact line as part of our "Solitude Series", a fully guided, small-ratio day designed to escape the crowds. Check our profile for event dates and availability.
